Most dog shows are sanctioned by the American Kennel Club and owners have their dogs registered with them. The dogs are able to accumulate points during the various competitions. The number of points that can be won is higher in a category when there is a great deal of entries to keep things very fair.
It takes a great deal of work with any breed of dog to get them ready for a show. There are strict guidelines that ensure each dog is being well treated. Anyone suspected of cruelty in their training programs will not be allowed to participate in the various events. Most trainers have several different dogs that they train in different categories. This way they can participate on several levels at any given dog show. They also don’t want their dogs to be competition against each other.
If you have never been to a dog show, it is a very fun experience for people of all ages. It is a great way to get some exposure to various types of dogs. If you are interested in raising dogs to train for such shows you should attend a few of them first. This way you can get a good look at the hard work that is going to be in front of you. This will also allow you to get your eye on the prize though which can definitely help to motivate you to do your very best.
